Queens of the Air
Here’s a wonderful bit of film footage of the first all-women’s flying meet in Northampton, England! I love the candid shot of the pilots hand-propping – a familiar sight at Brodhead, but I haven’t seen anyone in outfits that spiffy. March is Women’s History Month! This footage features many famous
Aviation Failures
It may be Monday, and the world may be kinda crazy, but there are *always* other pilots’ mistakes to laugh about! And laughter is the best medicine, right? Hang in there, fellow aviation fans! What projects (or failed projects…) are you working on at home these days?
Public Service Ad
A little reminder from a public service ad, circa 1918. The world has been through this before, but that doesn’t make it less scary. The staff at Kelch Aviation Museum will be working from home for a while. It’s a great time to research and plan – and band together
Mildred Kaufman
March is Women’s History Month! Here’s aviatrix Mildred Kaufman, who set a record for female aviators by flying 46 loop-the-loops in February of 1930. National Women’s Day
It’s National Women’s Day! We’re proud to feature our own 91 year-old Jeanne Scholes in this video. You’ve seen her around the museum and Brodhead Airport, but did you know she’s a boss who earned her pilot’s license at age 18? March is Women’s History Month, and we’ll be posting
Comet Aircraft Engine
Local Aviation History! Our latest acquisition is this Comet 7E aircraft engine built in nearby Madison, Wisconsin in 1929. The engine is on loan to the Kelch Aviation Museum and will be displayed once restoration is complete this year. Here’s a photo courtesy of the Wisconsin Historical Society of the
Rotary Club of Beloit
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Beloit for inviting the Kelch Aviation Museum to speak at their weekly meeting yesterday. Here’s Bob Pokorney from EAA Chapter 431 and Pat Weeden, Executive Director of the museum.
Engine Maintenance “…on the fly”
Be sure to keep your rockers greased at all times.
Shiny New Walls
Shiny new walls and floor! We can’t wait to build displays and signage and move in the airplanes!
Movie Special Effects
Hey, remember those days when movie special effects meant creativity and daring – and maybe a little insanity? Running a museum seems to require the same skills… 😉 This is one of the latest acquisitions in Kelch’s archive. We’re excited about our extensive photo collection, and we keep discovering new
